georgia’s muse with artist Sharlena Wood
Let's get together and create, let’s lose and find ourselves in the spirit of Georgia’s Muse.
Georgia’s Muse is a creative mixed media workshop inspired by the Land of Enchantment and Georgia O’Keeffe. Taking inspiration from the colours in the landscape and beauty reflected in mountains and skies, this journey will open our eyes to creating new works on paper and canvas.
Studio days begin with fresh creative exercises that observe elements inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. This will lead into open time, during which I will work with you one on one to guide personal projects of your own interest. You will create incredible works in the medium and style of your choice. Throughout the retreat I’ll demonstrate my own process, lead in-depth Q&As and critiques, weaving our day to day experiences into our visual work.
Georgia’s Muse is a nurturing, liberating experience perfect for all levels looking to discover or refine your own authentic style.

Arrive in Albuquerque, NM
Intro to workshop, dinner, and walk in Historic Old Town to learn about the settlement laid out by Spanish colonists in the 1700s.
Santa Fe / Abiquiu, NM
Explore the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the only museum in the world dedicated solely to the works of an American woman artist, and a stroll through the famed Canyon Road galleries. We will then make our way to the retreat property in Abiquiu.
Taking inspiration from the culture, land, and museum tour, we begin our creative journey with colour explorations and composition studies for larger works.
With sketchbooks packed, we tour the home, studio and property of Georgia O'Keeffe with a focus on travel journaling to capture ideas and visual inspiration to pursue personal works back at the barn studio.
Open studio for larger works and material exploration includes using ephemeral nature in collage, mixing earth pigments into paint, and various mixed media delights.
As Georgia O'Keeffe painted, sketched, and drew outdoors frequently, we venture to a pavilion for a plein air class in the high desert overlooking Abiquiu Lake and Ghost Ranch, followed by an afternoon at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Spa.
We begin the day with a collaborative project followed by time to explore our final works.
Depart from Albuquerque, NM
The retreat concludes and we return to Albuquerque for departure.
